Join CALI Board Members, founders, and the bargaining committee for our First Regional Member Meeting on March 31, 2026 in Oakland! This 1st Regional Member Meeting will feature a CIMCE-approved professional develompment event focusing on safety and security for legal interpreters.

PROFDEV COURSE DESCRIPTION

Court interpreters are “high-exposure” frontline staff working in close proximity to parties under stress. In this practical workshop, you’ll learn essential skills to better manage these vulnerabilities in workplace settings:

• Identify high-risk scenarios

• Communicate effectively with security staff

• Understand the role and limitations of security personnel

• Recognize early indicators of aggression

• Use time, distance, and positioning to reduce risk

PRESENTER

Lorena Pike is a certified court interpretertranslator, and professional development instructor specializing in law, accounting, finance, and business. She holds an accounting degree and a master’s degree in Spanish from UNLV. Lorena developed the Translation and Interpreting Certificate program at Santa Barbara City College and currently teaches  Interpreting and Translation at UCSD Extended Studies.
